The Town of Amherst Water Treatment Plant provides safe, clean, and affordable drinking water to the residents and businesses of the town and several surrounding areas. It has a production capacity of one million gallons per day. Water that’s sourced from the Buffalo River is processed through a conventional surface water filtration system that consists of three stages: chemical mixing, settling, and filtration. With a pair of one-million-gallon holding tanks and numerous miles of transmission and distribution pipes, this licensed and certified facility provides one of the town’s most essential services.
