Everyone knows that brothers Anthony and Benjamin Rucker invented the batteau, right? But did you know that the five-string banjo was also invented nearby? Batteaux and banjos have played significant roles in Virginia’s history, as well as river and mountain life.
Join us for an entertaining and informative program as Martin E. Liebschner, Jr., Chief Ranger for Visitor Experiences at James River State Park, speaks on the topic. Liebschner will also perform on original 19th-century instruments. Original artifacts will be on display, and light refreshments will follow the talk.
