Come learn about African American families in Amherst County and the relationships of these families to various neighborhoods, Sweet Briar College, and churches. Presenters:
- Lynn Rainville, PhD, is an author, speaker, and public historian who studies ordinary Virginians doing extraordinary things in the past. She spent two decades studying historic cemeteries, gravestones, enslaved communities, and their descendants.
- Dwana Waugh, PhD, is a Sweet Briar College associate professor of history and head of the social sciences and humanities division.
- Crystal Rosson is an Amherst County community scholar.
- Rev. Jasper Fletcher, an oral history source, will offer an introduction.
- Octavia Starbuck, director of the Amherst County Museum and Historical Society, and Marcia Robertson, PhD, will moderate.
