The Amherst County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court is located in the Amherst County Courthouse. It handles cases involving children accused of delinquent acts, traffic infractions, or status offenses, children in need of services or supervision, children who have been subjected to abuse or neglect, children seeking emancipation or work permits, spouses seeking support after separation, and a host of other similar cases.
All cases in the juvenile and domestic relations district court are heard by a judge, not a jury. It is not a court of record. Parties to a case can appeal the final decisions to the circuit court, which is a court of record and may involve a jury trial.
