Join Fred Loving, local historian, the Amherst Fire Department archivist, and museum Ghost Walk volunteer, as he discusses the creation of the fire department and some of the fires that have occurred around the county. At one time, the Amherst Fire Department was the only fire department between Lynchburg and Charlottesville. The firemen covered a wide area in Central Virginia, responding to structure fires, automobiles burning, and even state and U.S. forest fires.
Light refreshments will follow the presentation.
